Stuart James serves as the Executive Director at the historic Center for Independent Living in Berkeley (TheCIL). During his seven-year tenure, he has renewed TheCIL's commitment and vision for a truly inclusive world. His leadership has been pivotal in developing and updating various programs, including an expanded Assistive Technology (AT) program, new Lifestyles events, a life-changing Residential Access program, and the evolution of TheCIL's Youth programs.

Under Stuart James' guidance, TheCIL's endowment has nearly tripled. He has also successfully brought new corporate partnerships and increased attention to TheCIL through initiatives like the PowerOn! web series and the annual Ed Roberts Day event. These efforts have significantly contributed to the organization's visibility and financial health.

Stuart James has over twenty years of experience as an executive in the sports and entertainment industry. His career has taken him across four continents, where he has lived and worked, gaining a broad range of industry insights and experiences. He is also a passionate sports fan, dedicated to his childhood teams like the New York Giants and Knicks, and has vowed loyalty to the Toledo Mud Hens and University of Toledo Rockets.

Educational Background and Early Career

Stuart James holds a master's degree from the New York Institute of Technology. During his time there, he was actively involved in the lacrosse program as a graduate assistant, which was nationally ranked. This early experience laid the groundwork for his future career in leadership and program development in various industries.
