Lisa Bowleg serves as the Founding Director of the Intersectionality Research Institute and is a Professor of Psychology at The George Washington University. Lisa Bowleg serves as a Professor of Psychology with tenure at The George Washington University since 2013. In addition to her teaching role, she is the Founding Director of the Intersectionality Research Institute, a position she has held since 2019. She also contributes as a Faculty Affiliate in the Women’s Studies Program since 2016 and as the Director of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Core at the District of Columbia Center for AIDS Research since 2018.

Bowleg earned her Ph.D. in Applied Social Psychology from The George Washington University, where she also completed her M.A. in the same field. She holds a B.S. in Social Psychology from Georgetown University and has furthered her education at the University of California, San Francisco, focusing on the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies. She was an Associate Professor with tenure at Drexel University from 2006 to 2012 and at the University of Rhode Island from 2004 to 2006. Additionally, she served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Rhode Island from 1998 to 2004 and as an Adjunct Professor at Drexel University in 2013.
Consulting and Research Experience
Bowleg has extensive consulting experience, including a role as a Consultant at Brown University from 2002 to 2005. She was also a Co-Principal Investigator for the Community Research and Services Team at the University of Rhode Island from 2002 to 2005. In 2021, she became the President of MRGD Consulting LLC, further expanding her impact in the field.
