Shweta Gidwani has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at The George Washington University since 2010. In this role, she focuses on emergency medicine systems strengthening and capacity building. Gidwani has been a core faculty member running the Masters in Emergency Medicine program since 2007, contributing to the training of over 600 emergency medicine specialty doctors in India.
Education and Expertise
Gidwani completed her MBBS and achieved a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at King Edward Memorial Hospital from 1998 to 2003. She further enhanced her qualifications by studying at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in the UK, where she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM). Additionally, she studied Patient Safety & Health IT at Imperial College London, serving as a Research Fellow from 2011 to 2012.
Professional Experience
Gidwani held the position of Div Research Lead in Emergency & Integrated Care from 2017 to 2021. She has been a Consultant in Emergency Medicine since 2012. Currently, she is also a Winston Churchill Fellow at the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust UK, a role she has held since 2018. Gidwani is actively involved in the Global Emergency Medicine Committee at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in the UK.
Achievements in Emergency Medicine Education
In 2021, Gidwani successfully launched a Faculty Development Program aimed at mid to senior level emergency medicine providers, with participants from Saudi Arabia and India. She organized the annual national event 'Burnout to Brilliance' with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, which adapted to a virtual format during the pandemic in 2021.
