Bob Fleet has served as Vice President of Environment, Forestry, and Energy at Tolko Industries since 2011. In this role, he directs permitting processes to ensure sustainable forest management and resource supply. He oversees a team of 10 individuals and manages programs that align with Tolko’s Forest Management Principles and Environmental Policy. Fleet is responsible for ensuring third-party sustainability certification for the company and directs initiatives aimed at securing the long-term supply and sustainability of raw materials across 20 business units. He also shares insights with the Board of Directors to aid in strategic decision-making.
Previous Experience
Before joining Tolko Industries, Bob Fleet was the Chief Executive Officer and co-owner of BioSynergy Pellets from 2010 to 2011. His earlier experience includes a 15-year tenure at Grant Forest Products, where he held the position of Vice President of Woodlands and Environment from 1994 to 2009. His work at Grant Forest Products spanned multiple locations, including Ontario, Alberta, and South Carolina. Fleet's diverse background in forestry and environmental management has contributed to his current role at Tolko.
Education and Expertise
Bob Fleet earned a Bachelor of Science in Forestry (B.Sc.F.) from the University of Toronto, where he studied from 1976 to 1980. He furthered his education at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, completing the Directors Education Program focused on governance, strategy, compliance, risk management, cybersecurity, and ethics from 2018 to 2019. Additionally, he studied at the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, also completing the Directors Education Program during the same period. His educational background equips him with the skills necessary for effective leadership in environmental and forestry management.

In his role, Bob Fleet champions open communications and reconciliations with First Nations. He focuses on creating gainful employment opportunities and fostering new business relationships for Indigenous peoples. Fleet leads government negotiations and policy creation that benefit diverse stakeholders, demonstrating his commitment to sustainable practices and community engagement within the forestry sector.
