Previous Experience at ESRI

Before joining UCAR, Jennifer Boehnert worked at ESRI as a GIS Instructor and Consultant from 1999 to 2003. During her four years at ESRI, she provided training and consulting services, helping organizations effectively utilize GIS technology. This experience laid the foundation for her subsequent work in developing innovative GIS solutions and educational programs.

Jennifer Boehnert studied at Sir Sandford Fleming College, where she gained foundational knowledge in Geographic Information Systems. Innovative GIS Projects

Boehnert has been involved in several innovative GIS projects throughout her career. She developed web displays to communicate the Urban Heat Island effect in Houston for public health awareness. Additionally, she worked on projects to create open-source GIS tools for site suitability selection for weather stations in Kenya. Currently, she is developing an open-source decision support web mapping display for flood forecasting in India, which will also support a NASA Hydropower Forecasting project in East Africa.

Teaching and Workshops

Jennifer Boehnert has taught GIS courses at NCAR, Haskell Tribal College, and has led international workshops. Notably, she conducted a short course at the American Meteorological Society’s Annual Meeting in New Orleans in 2016. Her teaching focuses on climate change, weather extremes, and their societal impacts, demonstrating her commitment to educating others in the field of GIS.
