Prior to his current role at UMass Boston, Adugna Lemi held several academic positions. He worked as a Lecturer at Addis Ababa University from 1994 to 1998. He also served as an Assistant Professor at Winona State University for one year in 2003-2004. Furthermore, he was a Visiting Professor and Consultant at the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) in Nairobi, Kenya, from 2011 to 2014.
