About Dan Mulhern
I strategically assist top-two pairs to align tightly and model powerful collaboration for their organizations. I counsel pairs like a CEO with COO, co-founders, and Executive Director and Business Directors. I have been an executive coach and keynote speaker for over twenty years. My colleague John Gillis and I have been pioneering work on "Leading by Two," helping create powerful partnerships in business. The most promising and exciting work I am doing is onboarding, where one or both executives are starting a partnership and want to lead with creativity, unity, and respect. We build a positive foundation with them and help them avoid predictable pitfalls that can derail leaders. For the past 8 years, I have complemented my coaching and speaking with teaching leadership at UC Berkeley, in the Haas School of Business, Goldman School of Public Policy, and Berkeley Law. In that time I was awarded the Golden Apple for Outstanding Teaching by the students of Berkeley, and I have received the Earl Cheit Award for excellence in teaching at Haas. I learn every single day from students. I outlined my core philosophy in my first book, Everyday Leadership. The title stood for two propositions: leadership is not a position but an activity, and it must be practiced every single day through concrete behaviors. My second book, Be Real: Inspiring Stories for Leading at Home and Work, reflected my maturing sense that leadership belongs in the family and that leading at home and work feed each other. I co-authored my third book, A Governor’s Story with my wife, Jennifer Granholm. We chronicled our shared leadership philosophy and a substantive map to creating jobs in the constant change which is the 21st century. I am in the 20th year of writing an acclaimed blog, “Read2Lead,” which is received directly by a list of over 10,000 readers. I'm most happy to talk about LeadingX2 which you can see summarized in my recent TEDx Berkeley Talk. Contact me at dan@leadingx2.com.
