About Ivan Avannus Jacob Jimbangan
My name in Chinese is 'Ai Wen', a phrase that translates to 'love to ask'. Ever since I was a child, the world around me has sparked an insatiable curiosity. I've been fascinated by how the different elements of the universe work together so seamlessly. In many ways, my name is more than a mere label; it is a perfect reflection of my inquisitive nature and the endless questions that fuel my desire to understand. My journey for understanding extends into my academic and professional pursuits. As a rising 3rd-year Economics major at Stanford University, I'm also double minoring in Management Science & Engineering and Data Science, fields that marry my analytical interests with my drive to ask insightful questions. Previously, I held Visiting Student status at the University of Oxford's prestigious Saïd Business School, diving into Strategic Management under the expert guidance of Dr. Devarchan Banerjee (Cantab), where I achieved a first. This summer, my curiosity is channeled into my full-time internship and a part-time role as a Project Consultant on a pro bono social impact consulting project with The Malaysian SOCIAL Project, in collaboration with BCG Kuala Lumpur. These roles follow my experience as a Consultant at CapitOx (Oxford's Premier Finance & Consulting Society), where I delved into an M&A case for a multinational technology giant. Outside of my professional endeavors, I am passionate about engaging with my community. I currently serve as Vice President of Strategy for the largest US-based student organization for Malaysian students and was formerly one of the youngest members in Stanford’s highest level of student government with a seat on the school's Executive Cabinet to advocate for the school's ~4,000 international student population (~25% of the student body). Previously, I interned at Malaysia's premier think tank, IDEAS, conducting extensive and valuable research on the ASEAN economy. On the side, I am working on building a startup in the fintech space with other highly-motivated and talented Stanford students. Some other cool facts about me: 1. I was the only Malaysian accepted to Stanford's class of 2025, against a 3.95% acceptance rate (Even lower for international candidates) 2. I am the product of a public high school in a suburban district in Sabah (Widely known as Malaysia's poorest & least developed state) 3. At the age of 15, I built an app & platform to reduce food wastage whilst feeding the hungry in Malaysia with my friends, won an award & presented the idea to the (then) Prime Minister of Malaysia
