About Tanya Wright, Ed.M
I am a two-time SAG Award winning actress (Best Ensemble) for my portrayal of Crystal Burset in the Netflix series Orange is the New Black. I have had the good fortune of working with some of the most prolific, successful content creators in the history of the medium: television shows like True Blood (7 seasons as Deputy Kenya Jones), Madame Secretary, The Good Wife, NYPD BLUE and ER. I left Hollywood for a year to get my Master's Degree in Learning Design, Innovation and Technology at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in support of my children's educational franchise, Big Hair Hairiette of Harlem! While at Harvard, I won the HIVE (Harvard Innovative Venture in Education) pitch competition for most promising early stage venture; I also received the Education Entrepreneurship Summer Fellowship where I am working under the auspices of the Harvard Innovation Lab. The Big Hair Hairiette brand includes a website designed to increase literacy proficiency in children ages 6-9. The Big Hair Hairiette educational system is based on the story of a little girl named Hairiette who lives in Harlem, NY and goes on learning adventures with her friends Charlie the Comb and Barbara the Barrette. Big Hair Hairiette includes TV, film and games. I am excited to create inspiring content for women and girls at the intersection of education and entertainment.
