About David T. Miller
Dave is a renowned hospitality technology executive who has worked with many of the world’s largest and most successful chain restaurant companies over the last three decades. After graduating from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management where he attended on a football scholarship, David opened his first restaurant at the age of 22, Ye Olde Holmes House in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. It was a polish-casual concept that The New York Times designated as one of the top 10 restaurants in Florida. David’s next venture would be a 15,000 square foot restaurant, marina, and nightclub in Jensen Beach, Florida, called Mr. Laff’s. The restaurant grossed over $4 million annually in the late ‘80s and is still considered legendary around the country. With the wait times at Mr. Laff’s mounting, David, with the help of an engineer, developed a tech solution designed to alert guests when their tables were ready, streamlining the experience. The idea was such a success that he founded JTECH Inc. and the rest was history. Embraced by more than 70,000 restaurants worldwide, Nation’s Restaurant News described JTECH’s technology as the first wireless solution in our industry. After partnering with Mitt Romney and his company, Bain Capital, JTECH was acquired by MICROS Systems, Inc., a public company and the leading supplier of POS technology to the restaurant industry worldwide. David’s most recent venture was to develop and execute the go-to market sales strategy for the “pay at the table” upstart, Ziosk Inc., from its inception. Today, Ziosk tablets and services are on 170,000 tables in 4500 locations, in over 40 concepts, and in all 50 states. David has presented at numerous industry venues including FSTEC, the NRA Show Technology Pavilion, and conducted the first Technology Tour at the request of the National Restaurant Association in Chicago. He has lectured at the Hospitality School at Cornell University, the University of Michigan, and France’s Equip’ Hotel in Paris, at their National Restaurant Conference. David’s company, JTECH, has been featured as the cover story in Success Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, and was most recently the subject in Jaynie Smith’s award winning book, “Creating Competitive Advantage”.
