The Wings of Hope Achievement Awards (WOHAA)

We believe that young people have the power to change the world for the better. The Wings of Hope is a UK based children's charity, providing education and support for young people around the world. We currently run school projects in India, Malawi and the UK. Our main project, the Wings of Hope Achievement Award (WOHAA), was set up in 2004 and is open to 13-18 year old students in the UK and Europe. It is founded on the pillars of the 3Rs: recognising students' fundraising activities, ripening their abilities, and rewarding them with work experience, skills workshops and a unique winners' trip to India to teach at the Wings of Hope school. Participating in WOHAA will help a young person develop competencies in teamwork, leadership, communication, project management and event planning: "soft skills", that are being seen as more and more essential by modern employers. In 2012, our Speed Mentoring Event was set up to demystify the world of work for young people. Young professionals from many and diverse industries, including medicine, finance, music, fashion, and marketing come to give our participants an insight into career progression and their options for the future. We have also run a very successful Back To School Day event, putting bright young minds, top executives and world-class speakers together to facilitate inter-generational learning. We are an international children's charity working to provide free education to children in the developing world. We are not affiliated with any religious or political association. The Wings of Hope Children's charity was founded upon, and continues its work, on three pillars: 1. Life Skills and Education 2. Young People and Children 3. Junior Achievement Sri Lanka (Pilot Program)

Launching of “Junior Achievement” (JA) initiated by the Policy Development Office along with the Ministry of Education is a revolutionary step forward towards breaking the conventional teaching style prevailing in the country. It is an initiative to build character in the young and give direction through a different yet more exciting educational technique. The program holds a history of 100 years, originating from USA spread over 150? countries. The JA, or once popularly known as the Young Entrepreneur Sri Lanka (YESL) was active from 1998 to 2012. During this period, the YESL program expanded from 9 schools to almost 400 schools, reaching well over 35,000 students, island-wide. The JA program was endorsed by the Ministry of Education as an extra-curricular activity. The launch of the JA 2019 in Sri Lanka is expected to reach an even bigger student population with its brand-new model and outlook. The program is localized to accommodate the requirements of the Sri Lankan market whilst still meeting international standards introducing customized strategies developed for primary, secondary and senior levels accordingly. The JA pilot in Sri Lanka will be a model company program, a practical educational class where school children brainstorm a business idea, appoint a CEO and board of directors and run an actual business operation and liquidate the company and share the profit or loss during a school term – this is to get a simulation of starting and running a business. This is an extra-curricular activity done after school hours.” Objectives • To introduce the JA Program to the selected pilot schools • To plan out the implementation of the Pilot Program. • To identify issues in implementing JA Program once again in schools. • To receive feedback from the pilot schools regarding their online facilities to support JA feedback and other facilities.
