Airthium
Airthium is a French-American industrial company specializing in high-temperature heat pump technology for clean industrial heat solutions, focusing on decarbonization and energy efficiency.
Company Locations
Airthium operates out of two primary locations: Paris, Île-de-France, France, and Austin, TX, USA. These strategic locations enable the company to serve clients across various regions, including France, the United States, Europe, and North America. The company offers remote and partly remote work options for its team.
Industry and Sub-Industry
Airthium is positioned within the Industrials sector, specifically focusing on climatic solutions. The company's innovative approach targets the decarbonization of industrial heat, leveraging advanced technologies to address climate challenges economically and efficiently.
Funding and Investments
Founded in 2016, Airthium joined the Y-Combinator batch S17 in 2017 and completed a pre-seed funding round. In 2019, the company was hosted by Air Liquide. Between 2021 and 2023, Airthium raised $2.6M in a seed funding round, bolstering its resources to advance its clean industrial heat solutions.
Innovative Heat Pump Technology
Airthium offers turnkey clean industrial heat solutions designed to help customers meet decarbonization targets and ESG goals. The company's core innovation is a very-high-temperature heat pump, which transforms the traditional Stirling engine concept into a reliable, low-cost solution. This high-temperature heat pump operates efficiently in the 150°C-550°C range, a significant industrial segment valued at $13 billion annually. Utilizing near-iso-thermal gas compression, the heat pump achieves up to 86% of Carnot's efficiency and Coefficients Of Performance as high as 3.5.
High-Temperature Heat Pump Features
Airthium's heat pump technology can handle intermittent processes requiring bursts of heat or temperatures that vary significantly over time. The system's simple mechanical design promotes low maintenance and minimal downtime by eliminating high-temperature sliding or rotating seals. Using Helium (R704) as the working gas and different heat transfer fluids, Airthium's heat pump can upgrade waste heat up to 550°C or atmospheric heat as low as -60°F, enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability.
