Services
The Ann Arbor District Library (AADL) offers a broad range of services to meet the diverse needs of the community. These include public computers, digitization services, homework help, job search assistance, and Zoom meeting rooms. The library also provides free notary services by appointment and houses dedicated kids areas in each location equipped with books and iPads loaded with apps and games. Meeting rooms are available for public use, supporting various community needs.
Collections
AADL boasts an extensive and varied collection that appeals to a wide audience. Patrons can check out books, magazines, music, and videos, as well as musical instruments, art and science tools, board games, puzzles, art prints, and even giant games. Additionally, thousands of online audio and video streams are available for instant access through the aadl.org catalog. The library also offers unique Community Collections, which include local history resources, archives, and oral histories.
Events and Programs
AADL hosts a multitude of events and programs catering to all age groups. These include preschool storytimes, baby playgroups, arts and crafts events, author presentations, film screenings, contests, and technology labs. The library is known for its large-scale events such as Record Store Day, Gardening & DIY Fest, Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival, and the Tiny Expo craft show. Additionally, AADL runs various contests like a Halloween Costume Contest, LEGO Contest, and writing contests for teens and children.
Fifth Avenue Press
Fifth Avenue Press, established in 2017, is AADL's locally focused and publicly owned publishing imprint. Its mission is to support the local writing community by providing a platform for local authors to publish their works. This initiative strengthens AADL’s commitment to fostering local talent and enriching the literary culture of the Ann Arbor area.
Washtenaw Library for the Blind and Print Disabled
AADL's Washtenaw Library for the Blind and Print Disabled (WLBPD) offers free services to individuals unable to read standard print due to visual or physical limitations. This service underscores AADL's dedication to inclusivity by ensuring all community members have access to its resources, helping to bridge gaps created by disabilities.
