Black & Pink National
Black & Pink National is a nonprofit organization founded in 2005 that supports incarcerated and formerly incarcerated LGBTQIAS2+ individuals and those living with HIV/AIDS through advocacy, housing, and reentry programs.
History
Black & Pink National was founded in 2005. Since its inception, the organization has been dedicated to serving LGBTQIAS2+ individuals and people living with HIV/AIDS who are currently or formerly incarcerated. Over the years, it has grown into a substantial grassroots network with 11 volunteer-led chapters. Black & Pink National has consistently focused on advocacy and providing support for its members across the country.
Services
Black & Pink National offers a range of services designed to support its members. Their Opportunity Campus serves system-impacted LGBTQIA2S+ young people. The organization operates the Lydon House, which provides housing and support for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals impacted by incarceration. In addition, Black & Pink National coordinates a nationwide penpal program aimed at providing emotional support to incarcerated LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. Their REAP program focuses on reentry support for LGBTQIA2S+ formerly incarcerated individuals, facilitating their transition back into society.
Programs
The Opportunity Campus is a cornerstone of Black & Pink National's efforts, offering services tailored to system-impacted LGBTQIA2S+ youth. The Lydon House provides a crucial service by offering housing and support for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals post-incarceration. Their nationwide penpal program connects incarcerated LGBTQIA2S+ individuals with volunteers to offer emotional and social support. Additionally, they distribute a newsletter to over 19,000 incarcerated LGBTQIA2S+ members and those living with HIV/AIDS, keeping them informed and connected to the community.
