History
Chantiers De Chibougamau Ltee was founded in 1961. The company's roots are deeply intertwined with the Chibougamau community. In 2015, it acquired Scierie Landrienne, and in 2020, it relaunched the Nordic Kraft plant in Lebel-sur-Quévillon. The acquisitions of sawmills in Béarn and La Sarre in March 2023 were strategic moves to consolidate activities and bolster autonomy and resilience.
Products
Chantiers De Chibougamau Ltee is dedicated to producing high-quality construction materials from wood. Annual production includes about 600 million board feet of lumber, sufficient to build approximately 40,000 single-family homes. The company also produces over 80 million linear feet of I-joists and massive wood tailored for large, low-carbon construction projects. In addition, it generates approximately 300,000 tonnes of kraft pulp annually.
Energy Production
At the core of Chantiers De Chibougamau Ltee's operations is a commitment to renewable energy. The Nordic Kraft plant in Lebel-sur-Quévillon significantly contributes to this, producing 41.3 MW of renewable energy under a 25-year contract with Hydro-Québec. Annually, the plant generates more than 30 megawatts of renewable energy, underpinning the company's sustainable approach.
Sustainability Standards
Chantiers De Chibougamau Ltee was the first private company to meet the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards in 2009, reflecting its commitment to sustainable forestry practices. The company renewed its FSC certification in 2019, reaffirming its ongoing dedication to responsible forest management and sustainability.
Modernization Initiatives
Since its acquisition of the Nordic Kraft plant in Lebel-sur-Quévillon in 2017, Chantiers De Chibougamau Ltee has invested over $400 million CAD in modernization efforts.
