Cybera provides a variety of services to support innovation and connectivity in Alberta. Its Rapid Access Cloud offers free cloud computing resources to local innovators. The Applied Data Science Lab for Economic Development pairs emerging data scientists with local businesses for long-term data science projects. The Internet Buying Group has saved members over $5.3 million in network fees since 2012 and allows for monthly adjustment of bandwidth requirements. Cybera’s ShareIT program offers IT hardware, software, licensing, and services at lower costs and includes professional development and training opportunities.
Research and Education Network
Cybera operates Alberta's Research & Education Network, connecting local researchers to around 100 research networks globally. This extensive network enhances collaborative opportunities and access to global research initiatives. In 2020, Cybera transported 45,200 terabytes of data, underscoring its significant role in data sharing and research facilitation within Alberta's educational and research communities.
Cloud Computing and Data Science Initiatives
Through its Rapid Access Cloud, Cybera supports 3,570 users, providing free cloud computing resources to Alberta innovators. Cybera's Applied Data Science Lab aids 10 different organizations with data science and machine learning practices as of 2023. These initiatives enhance the local ecosystem's capacity for data-driven decision-making and technological advancement.
IT and Connectivity Solutions
Cybera's ShareIT program has accumulated over $100 million in member spending on IT hardware, licenses, and services since 2017, offering cost-efficient solutions. The Peering Service ensures direct connections to major content providers, reducing 50% of commercial internet traffic for members. Additionally, the Virtual Firewall Service provides scalable software protection for public sector organizations, eliminating the need for individual hardware setup or maintenance.
Advocacy and Support for Rural Connectivity
The Alberta Rural Connectivity Coalition, initiated by Cybera, advocates for universal and affordable high-speed internet connectivity in Alberta. This coalition addresses the digital divide and seeks robust funding and regulatory commitments from various government levels. Through such advocacy, Cybera aims to ensure that all Albertans have access to essential digital services and opportunities.
