DCAF Services in The Gambia

Since 2017, DCAF has supported security sector reform processes in The Gambia. Their work involves enhancing border security and fostering interagency collaboration among security entities. DCAF's support includes developing key performance indicators for the Gambian Police Force (GPF) and the Gambian Immigration Department (GID), aligning GPF's police doctrine with international standards, and revising the immigration bill for GID. They have also conducted a gender survey of the justice and security sector and developed a legal database in partnership with the Office of National Security.

DCAF Field Offices

DCAF operates field offices in multiple locations worldwide. Some of these locations include Addis Ababa, Bamako, Banjul, Beirut, Belgrade, Brussels, Chișinău, Kyiv, Ljubljana, Niamey, Ramallah, Skopje, Tegucigalpa, Tripoli, and Tunis. These offices help facilitate DCAF’s local and regional initiatives, enabling them to provide direct support and advisory services to governments and institutions engaged in security sector reforms.

DCAF's ISSAT Role and Services

The International Security Sector Advisory Team (ISSAT) within DCAF provides practical support to the international community in improving security and justice in conflict-affected and fragile states. ISSAT works with member states and international institutions to develop and promote good security and justice reform practices. Their services include advisory field support, the EU SSG Facility, knowledge and outreach, and professional development and training.

DCAF's Global Initiatives and Policies

DCAF supports international initiatives focused on private military and security companies and responsible business conduct. They have contributed to the development of the Montreux Document, the International Code of Conduct Association, and the Voluntary Principles Initiative. They have implemented international norms and good practices in more than 30 countries. Recently, DCAF's work on business and security marked its 10-year anniversary.

In the Middle East and North Africa, DCAF focuses on enhancing governance in the justice and security sectors. Their initiatives in this region aim to improve the effectiveness and accountability of these sectors, fostering stability and security in a complex and often volatile environment.
