Electric Hydrogen
Electric Hydrogen manufactures the world’s most powerful electrolyzers, offering a 100MW solution for producing low-cost green hydrogen. Founded in 2020, the company has secured significant financing and support to decarbonize critical industries at scale.
Services
Electric Hydrogen offers advanced electrolysis solutions for critical industries, providing competitive green hydrogen production. The company manufactures and commissions the most powerful electrolyzers, including a 100MW complete solution for the lowest cost hydrogen. This technology includes comprehensive system components necessary for transforming water and electricity into green hydrogen, such as power conversion, gas processing, water treatment, and thermal management.
Products
Electric Hydrogen's flagship product is its 100MW electrolyzer plant, capable of producing nearly 50 tons of green hydrogen daily. This high-capacity plant is constructed and commissioned within about three months and is significantly larger and faster to deploy compared to typical sub-5MW technologies from competitors. The company also operates a 1MW plant in San Carlos, CA, and a 10MW plant in San Jose, CA.
Founders
Electric Hydrogen was founded in December 2020. Since its inception, the company has rapidly grown to become a leading player in the green hydrogen industry.
Funding and Financial Support
Electric Hydrogen has secured substantial financial backing critical for its expansion and technological developments. This includes $380M in Series C financing, establishing it as the first $1B green hydrogen start-up. Additionally, the company has received a $100M credit facility from HSBC, J.P. Morgan, Stifel Bank, and Hercules Capital, along with a $50M equipment financing from Trinity Capital. The U.S. Department of Energy has provided a total support of $65M, including an $18.3M transferable DOE tax credit for its gigafactory in Massachusetts.
Key Projects and Agreements
Electric Hydrogen's key projects include a 100MW commercial project with New Fortress announced in September 2023. The company also signed a 1GW framework supply agreement with The AES Corporation for large-scale electrolyzer plants. Additionally, Electric Hydrogen opened an Electrolyzer Gigafactory in Devens, Massachusetts with an annual production capacity of 1.2GW, supported by a $46.3M grant from the Department of Energy's Clean Electrolysis Program, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Sector
Electric Hydrogen focuses on the industrial-scale production of green hydrogen, particularly targeting the decarbonization of heavy industries. The company's technology aids industries such as fertilizer, ammonia, steel, chemicals, and fuels in achieving their climate objectives efficiently. Utilizing advanced PEM technology, Electric Hydrogen drives sustainability by turning green hydrogen into an economically viable option for these crucial sectors.
