The Entrepreneurs Foundation of New Hampshire was founded in 1962 with a mission to support the local community. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded a total of $867 million in grants and scholarships. The organization's commitment to New Hampshire is evident through its significant contributions and strategic focus on equity, racial justice, and economic security.
Grants and Scholarships
The Foundation awards more than $60 million in grants and scholarships annually. In 2022, the total amount awarded was $62 million. The Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that contribute to health and well-being, environmental protection, education, housing, arts and culture, civic health, and economic security. Additionally, the Foundation's scholarship programs support nearly 1,800 New Hampshire students each year, with nearly $8 million distributed to help fund their education. These scholarships cater to a wide array of educational pursuits including short-term vocational studies, certificates, licensing programs, apprenticeships, and degree programs.
Strategic Focus on Equity and Justice
The Foundation's new strategic plan is centered on advancing equity and racial justice. The focus is on creating a community where everyone can thrive. This includes supporting nonprofit organizations that work towards these goals, investing charitable assets in ways that align with these values, and using their voice to advocate on important public issues. In collaboration with community partners, the Foundation works to identify and address pressing community needs.
Investment and Financial Management
The Entrepreneurs Foundation of New Hampshire has a strong track record of investment performance. Its investments are managed by the Board of Directors and Investment Committee, with assistance from Cambridge Associates. The Foundation is accredited with the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations, ensuring rigorous standards in financial management. The Foundation received $47 million in charitable gifts in 2022, reflecting strong community support and trust.
Specific Funds and Initiatives
The Foundation manages several dedicated funds to address specific community needs. The Wellborn Ecology Fund focuses on increasing environmental science knowledge in the Upper Valley and has awarded more than $5.5 million since 2001. The Greater Rochester Community Health Foundation aims to improve health and well-being in Strafford County. The Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund supports sustainable community and economic development in New Hampshire’s North Country. Additionally, the Community Crisis Action Fund was established to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, while the Medallion Fund supports students in short-term vocational or technical programs.
