Emergency Shelter Services
Flagstaff Shelter Services provides emergency shelter to individuals experiencing homelessness. It costs just $6 per night to provide shelter for someone in need. They serve 2,000 unduplicated individuals each year, including many women escaping domestic or sexual violence and 20% who are US veterans. As the largest emergency shelter in Northern Arizona, they offer a variety of essential services, including meals through a partnership with the Flagstaff Family Food Center.
Housing Programs
Flagstaff Shelter Services offers several housing programs, including Housing First, Housing as Healthcare, and Front Door. Their Housing First program aims to transition clients from emergency shelters to permanent housing with the help of case managers. The Front Door program, in partnership with Catholic Charities, connects people in crisis with the resources they need for stability. Additionally, non-congregate housing opportunities are available, and they provide wrap-around and supportive services to help clients maintain housing and become productive community members.
Health and Support Services
Flagstaff Shelter Services addresses various aspects of health and social support for homeless individuals. They provide healthcare services, counseling support, and resources for domestic violence, substance abuse, and debt management. The free health clinic operates four days a week, offering essential medical care to those in need. Their wrap-around services include life-saving and life-changing support, aiming to help clients become healthy, productive members of the community.
Facility Expansions
Flagstaff Shelter Services have expanded their capabilities through significant acquisitions and funding. They purchased the Howard Johnson Motel and The Lantern to increase their non-congregate shelter capacity. Funded by the Arizona Department of Housing and the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, the new facilities will offer on-site and wrap-around care. The Crown site on Route 66 focuses on providing emergency shelter for the elderly, immunocompromised, and families, with plans to transition to permanent supportive housing in the future.
