Grasshopper was founded in 2006 and expanded its operations to China Square Central in 2010. By 2012, the company had reached a milestone of trading a million futures a month. Grasshopper continued to grow, reaching 40 employees by 2013 and undergoing a major re-build of its trading and data platform in 2015. The company began studying Blockchain technology and Artificial Intelligence the same year. Recognized as a regulated high-speed trading firm by FSA Japan in 2018, Grasshopper further expanded into the Thai and Malaysian markets in 2020. Grasshopper Asset Management (GAM) was launched in 2021, regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. In 2023, Grasshopper moved to a new office in Anson House and successfully raised funds from external investors for further expansion into Asia.

Grasshopper has developed a proprietary technology platform optimized for liquidity provision at massive scale and nanosecond-level speed. It employs FPGA platforms for deterministic risk and order management and utilizes ultra-low latency networks such as Metamako and Arista.
