Education and Legal Background
Subramonium Prasad graduated with a B.Com. (Hons.) from Delhi University. He pursued a degree in Law (LLB) from the Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, completing it in 1990. Prasad cleared the Advocate-On-Record exam in 1996, which allowed him to start his independent legal practice.
Standing Counsel for Tamil Nadu
In 2003, Subramonium Prasad was appointed as the Standing Counsel for the State of Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court of India, a position he held until 2006. During this tenure, he represented Tamil Nadu in various significant cases and legal matters before the highest court of India.
Roles and Responsibilities Under Special Court Act
Subramonium Prasad served as the standing counsel for the custodian appointed under the Special Court (Trial of Offences Relating to Transactions in Securities) Act, 1992. This role involved dealing with cases related to the 1992 stock exchange scam, a high-profile financial scandal in Indian history.
Senior Advocate and Additional Advocate General
In October 2012, Subramonium Prasad was appointed as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court of India. He was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India in April 2015. During this period, he worked on several notable cases spanning areas like Constitutional Law, Tax, Corporate and Commercial Law, Criminal Law, Election Law, Service Law, and Inter-State River Water Disputes.
Judicial Appointments
On 4 June 2018, Subramonium Prasad was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Madras High Court. He was transferred to the Delhi High Court as an Additional Judge on 13 March 2020. Subsequently, he was confirmed as a Permanent Judge of the Madras High Court on 17 March 2020.
