Kwil

Kwil is a framework for deploying decentralized, byzantine fault-tolerant relational databases designed for dApps and Web 3.0 applications.

Services

Kwil offers a framework for deploying relational databases as stand-alone byzantine fault-tolerant networks. It is designed for dApps and decentralized platforms, facilitating data-driven Web 3.0 applications. The framework allows applications to deploy decentralized networks capable of storing relational data privately, securely, and compliantly. Kwil networks utilize SQL for data management and offer tools for custom authentication and business logic implementation.

Products

Kwil provides highly extensible and decentralized relational database networks. The v0.7 version introduced PostgreSQL as the core database engine and an advanced extension system. This update ensures that the entire repository is open-source, promoting transparency. Kwil networks use CometBFT for consensus and PostgreSQL for data storage. The framework includes several extensions such as Kuneiform Precompiles, Authenticators, Event Listeners, and Resolutions. Furthermore, Kwil supports permissioned and permissionless node participation and supports custom cryptographic signature schemes.

History

Kwil's journey has marked several pivotal milestones. One significant development was in version 0.7, where PostgreSQL was adopted as the core database engine, and an advanced extension system was introduced. This version was also the first instance of Kwil's entire repository being open-source. Additionally, the company successfully raised an $8,900,000 seed round co-led by FTX Ventures and Blockchange Ventures.

Technology

Kwil's architecture is built around byzantine fault-tolerant blockchain networks that operate even if some nodes fail or act maliciously. The networks run their own sovereign blockchain, manage data using SQL, and offer both public and private data permissioning. Kwil enables decentralized identity platforms to comply with regulatory requirements. Key technological components include Kuneiform smart contract language, a built-in oracle system for consensus on external events, and extensible custom logic for execution. The networks also support Proof of Authority and can be adapted for Proof of Stake consensus mechanisms.

Testnet

Kwil's new testnet is available at https://testnet.kwil.com with Chain ID 'kwil-chain-testnet-0.6'. This provides developers a platform to test the deployment and functionality of their decentralized database networks. The testnet offers an environment to experiment with Kwil's capabilities before moving to production.
