Services

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) offers a wide array of services tailored to support local governments and improve the quality of life in North Central Texas. These services encompass transportation planning, environmental and developmental programs, aging and disability resources, emergency preparedness, demographic research, regional training, criminal justice, 911 emergency numbers, and a regional police academy. They assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and recognizing regional opportunities.

Transportation Planning

NCTCOG's Transportation Department serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the 12-county Dallas-Fort Worth region. The department works closely with regional, state, and federal partners to plan and recommend transportation projects aimed at improving mobility and encouraging efficient land use. The Regional Transportation Council acts as the transportation policy body for the area, making critical decisions to enhance the transportation infrastructure.

Aging and Disability Resources

NCTCOG's Area Agency on Aging provides a coordinated network of health and social services for adults age 60 and older and their family caregivers. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for the elderly by offering essential resources and support systems. The agency assists with a variety of needs, including healthcare, social services, and caregiver support.

Emergency Preparedness

Established post 9-11, NCTCOG's Emergency Preparedness Department is one of the largest and most effective programs of its kind in the United States. The department aids local governments in preparing for significant emergencies and disasters, focusing on robust planning and swift response mechanisms. The program includes hazard mitigation plans to help communities prepare for natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, and wildland fires.

Environmental and Development Programs

NCTCOG's Environment & Development department fosters collaboration among public entities to tackle common environmental issues and address development challenges resulting from the region’s rapid growth and urbanization. Additionally, the Public Works Council offers expertise and support on a wide range of regional public works issues, ensuring sustainable and efficient infrastructure development.
