Sustainable Battery Production
NOVO is dedicated to developing and producing sustainable batteries specifically designed for electric Volvo cars. The production process and facilities aim to support Volvo Cars' goal of having 50% of its global sales be fully electric by 2025, with an ambition to offer only pure electric vehicles by 2030.
Gothenburg Battery Gigafactory
The Gothenburg battery gigafactory marks a significant milestone for NOVO, with construction having commenced in March 2024. Once completed, this facility will operate adjacent to Volvo Cars in Torslanda. Planned to start operations in 2025, the gigafactory will have an annual cell production capacity of up to 50 GWh, enough to supply batteries for about half a million electric cars each year. The production is projected to start in 2026, with ongoing construction extending to 2030.
R&D Facilities
Established in 2022, the research and development (R&D) facility in Gothenburg is a cornerstone of NOVO's operations. This R&D center is dedicated to advancing battery technologies and solutions that align with sustainable practices. By leveraging expertise from various engineering disciplines such as chemical, electrical, mechanical, and industrial engineering, the facility plays a crucial role in supporting NOVO's and Volvo Cars' electrification goals.
Employment and Talent Programs
NOVO is actively expanding its team, with plans to hire over 60 roles in various engineering and construction disciplines in the coming months. The company offers a talent exchange program with Northvolt in Skellefteå, where employees can gain experience for 18-24 months before returning to Gothenburg. Additionally, NOVO provides relocation services for employees and their families to ease the transition and ensure a smooth integration into the company.
