About Onja
Onja is a social enterprise focused on transforming underprivileged youth in Madagascar into world-class software developers. The company identifies the brightest students who cannot afford to continue their education and provides them with training in English and software development. Onja's training program lasts for just two-and-a-half years and has already produced skilled developers working remotely for partner organizations in Europe and the US.
Training Program
Onja’s training program is designed to be completed within two-and-a-half years. During this period, students acquire advanced English language skills and extensive experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, React Native, and TypeScript. The training process ensures that developers are ready to meet the demands of global software companies, culminating in real-world work experience with partner companies.
Remote Talent for Hire
Onja offers remote talent that is both affordable and highly skilled. Onja developers operate across US and European time zones and work from a well-equipped co-working space in Madagascar, featuring fibre internet, backup connections, and office facilities. Companies can access these developers risk-free for a 3-month trial with a 7-day notice period.
Impact on Local Communities
Onja has a profound impact on local communities by providing life-changing opportunities for underprivileged youth. The income that developers earn is often sent home to support their families, improve living conditions, and fund siblings' education. The initiative not only empowers young people but also contributes to creating a diverse workforce and supporting local economic development.
Sustainable Growth
Onja operates under a sustainable, self-funding model but also accepts donations to accelerate its growth. The organization aims to take on 360 new students over the next four years. As a registered non-profit in New Zealand and Madagascar, Onja focuses on long-term impact and scalability, continuously building the next generation of talent in Madagascar.
