PCCI, an independent not-for-profit organization spun out from Parkland Health in 2012, focuses on leveraging digital health technology and advanced analytics to improve care delivery and health equity for vulnerable populations across North Texas and beyond.

History

PCCI began as a department within Parkland Health and transitioned to an independent, not-for-profit organization in 2012. Despite its independence, PCCI remains closely linked with Parkland Health, the Parkland Foundation, and the Parkland Community Health Plan. The organization focuses on addressing the needs of vulnerable populations in North Texas and beyond.

Services

PCCI leverages research and innovations in digital health technology and advanced analytics to help organizations improve care delivery, promote health equity, and enhance access for vulnerable populations. They implemented programs to manage COVID-19 pandemic impacts, including capacity forecasting, proximity index, vulnerability index, vaccine distribution protocols, and herd immunity methodologies.

Products

PCCI’s digital data environment, Isthmus™, is a secure platform designed for healthcare data analytics and supports over 10 AI/ML models in various Texas settings. The Community Vulnerability Compass (CVC) quantifies socio-economic and non-medical challenges across communities, aiding in more localized and effective community engagement efforts.

Research and Innovation

PCCI has a strong focus on developing real-time predictive models for healthcare applications. Their programs include a Pediatric Asthma program, Pre-term Birth Prevention, Early Warning Systems (EWS) for patient condition deterioration, Sepsis Management, and PARAD (Patients at Risk for Adverse Drug Events at Admission). Each model aims to identify high-risk patients and trigger timely interventions.

Community Engagement

PCCI’s connected community of care (CCC) framework supports sustainable clinic-to-community partnerships. This framework includes governance, technology platforms, data sharing, community engagement, and impact measurement. Their Community Vulnerability Compass (CVC) offers detailed insights into the socio-economic conditions and vulnerabilities of neighborhoods, helping organizations design better programs to improve health equity.
