History
Regional Rail was established in April 2007 and has since expanded its operations and service offerings. In 2012, the company formed its subsidiary, Diamondback Signal, to focus on signal installation and maintenance services. Regional Rail has grown through strategic acquisitions, such as the acquisition of Carolina Coastal Railway in 2020 and Pinsly Railroad Company’s Florida operations in 2019. Most recently, the company acquired a portfolio of freight rail assets in Western Canada from G3 Canada Limited in 2022 and both Indiana Eastern Railroad and Ohio South Central Railroad in 2023.

Key railroads under its management include East Penn Railroad, Middletown & New Jersey Railroad, Tyburn Railroad, Florida Central Railroad, Florida Midland Railroad, Florida Northern Railroad, Port Manatee Railroad, Carolina Coastal Railway, Burns Harbor Railroad, Great Sandhills Railway, Illinois Western Railroad, Effingham Railroad, Ohio South Central Railroad, and South Point & Ohio Railroad.
Acquisitions
Regional Rail has expanded significantly through acquisitions. In 2019, the company acquired Pinsly Railroad Company’s Florida operations, which included rail services in central and north Tampa areas. In 2020, Regional Rail acquired Carolina Coastal Railway, Inc., adding to its portfolio of railroads in Eastern North Carolina. In 2022, the company purchased a portfolio of freight rail assets in Western Canada from G3 Canada Limited, and in 2023, it acquired Indiana Eastern Railroad and Ohio South Central Railroad to further strengthen its market position.
