SorbiForce
SorbiForce is a U.S. company that developed the world's first sustainable, metal-free battery made from renewable raw materials, aiming to transition humanity to renewable energy sources.
History of SorbiForce
SorbiForce has pursued innovation in sustainable energy storage since its inception. In 2017, the company obtained the first samples of highly porous activated carbon materials (ACM) with a specific pore surface of 3000 m2/g. By 2018, they had created samples weighing 0.2 grams. Establishing an R&D center in Western Ukraine in 2019, SorbiForce developed a battery prototype with a specific energy density of 45-60 Wh/kg. The start-up scaled these prototypes to weights of 0.7 - 1.5 kg by 2020, achieving 1,000+ operational cycles. Finishing the testing phase for a 2 kWh battery by 2021, the company evaluated its performance with household appliances. The following year, they developed equipment for pilot production and registered SorbiForce Inc. in Delaware, USA. SorbiForce was ranked among the top 5 US battery startups by F6s.com in 2023.
SorbiForce Products
SorbiForce develops sustainable batteries made entirely from renewable raw materials without metal or toxic components. These revolutionary batteries are dimensioned at L 20' (6.1 m), H 8'6" (2.6 m), W 8' (2.4 m), featuring specifications such as 0.12-1 MW power, 18.9 tons weight, capacity from 0.5-0.7 MWh, and up to 120 kV voltage. The batteries are metal-free, easy to recycle, and non-flammable, ensuring safety. They incorporate ultra-porous carbon derived from agricultural residues like straw and are resistant to mechanical damage and overcharging. Their production cost for 1 kWh is 1.8 times cheaper than their lithium-ion counterparts. They can be used for diverse applications, including in cities, offices, households, power plants, electric car charging stations, and renewable energy farms.

Sustainable Batteries by SorbiForce
SorbiForce’s sustainable batteries are developed from renewable raw materials without the use of metals or toxic substances, reducing environmental impact. The primary component is ultra-porous carbon sourced from agricultural residues like straw. The batteries are non-flammable, non-explosive, and exceed safety standards by being mechanically robust and free from thermal runaway issues. Economically, these batteries cost 1.8 times less for 1 kWh compared to lithium-ion batteries, making them a cost-effective solution for large-scale energy storage applications. Additionally, upon full discharge, the components are safe for human handling and can be disposed of in organic waste or repurposed as fertilizer.
