Svante develops scalable and eco-friendly carbon capture technology using unique solid sorbents, designed for heavy-emitting industries and capable of capturing CO2 from both industrial emissions and the air.

Svante's Carbon Capture Technology

Svante's carbon capture technology utilizes unique solid sorbents that are scalable, eco-friendly, and commercially available. The technology is effective in capturing CO2 from both industrial emissions and the air. Svante's modular rotary contactor machines, like the URSA 1000 and URSA 2000, capture 500 and 2,000 tonnes of CO2 per day, respectively. The technology uses a rapid cycle-temperature swing adsorption process called VeloxoTherm™ and features filters made from structured adsorbent laminate beds. The captured CO2 can be transported and stored underground, or used to manufacture other products.

Applications in Heavy-Emitting Industries

Svante's carbon capture solutions are tailored for heavy-emitting and hard-to-decarbonize industries such as cement, steel, lime, hydrogen, aluminum, oil & gas, pulp & paper, and fertilizer. Their technology concentrates captured CO2 to pipeline grade purity, ensuring it is suitable for safe transport and storage. Svante's technology is also resistant to SOx, NOx, oxygen impurities, and moisture swing, making it effective across a variety of industrial environments.

Modular and Adaptable Design

Svante's technology features a modular design, making it repeatable, adaptable, and efficient in terms of capital costs at all scales. The solid sorbents used in the technology are designed to be recycled and do not require toxic liquid chemicals. The technology is capable of handling operational intermittence, start/stop operations, and load following with ease. The structured adsorbent beds can capture and release CO2 in under 60 seconds, making the system highly efficient.

Research and Partnerships

Svante's work with solid sorbents and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is well documented and recognized in top science and engineering circles, with significant research published in Science Magazine. Svante has partnered with leading global construction and engineering companies to build custom carbon capture plants. Notably, a large-scale pilot project at Delek US's Big Spring refinery in Texas aims to capture 145,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. This project is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy with up to $95 million in federal funding.

Facilities and Production Capabilities

Svante's Centre of Excellence for Carbon Capture & Removal is located in Burnaby, BC, Canada. To support its commercial filter manufacturing, Svante has secured additional coating capacity through a partnership with 3M. The carbon capture plant at Delek US's refinery is set to create approximately 200 construction and operations jobs in 2027 and 2028, further showcasing the company's commitment to industrial-scale carbon capture solutions.
